What Does It Really Mean to Protect Yourself Psychically?
Keeping your current stable
Psychic sensitivity begins with awareness, not of what’s out there, but of what’s coming from within.
Our bodies are constantly giving something off: warmth, moisture, even tiny amounts of light. Scientists studying biophotons have measured ultra faint light emitted by living cells. I’ve always pictured the aura as that blurred edge where your body meets the air around you.
For psychics, that edge is more perceptible, a field we can feel, read, respond to. Caring for it is emotional hygiene as much as spiritual hygiene, the same way healthy personal boundaries keep your inner life your own.
When I’ve visited very haunted locations, the air feels electric; you can sense static all around you. Your body works in a similar way. Protecting yourself psychically is like grounding a wire. It keeps your current steady.
Saltwater, the great equalizer
I learned this from my husband when he lost a family member. Whether through tears, sweat, a hot bath, or the ocean itself, saltwater gives emotion a safe place to move. It helps you release, then remember you’re part of something infinitely larger.
Psychic protection isn’t hiding from the world. It’s keeping your energy yours.
Why Is Cleansing Your Space So Important?
Even good vibes collect dust
Cleansing is one of the most overlooked parts of psychic work. We tidy our homes, reset our devices; our energetic environments deserve the same attention.
Emotions, thoughts, tension, grief all leave a trace. Using essential oils to brighten or freshen a room isn’t about following a trend. It’s about creating an atmosphere where clarity can exist.
For some, cleansing means smoke: sage, cedar, incense curling through the air. Others prefer scent: a citrus mist, a drop of frankincense on the wrists, or simply opening a window to let light pour in.
Whatever form it takes, the goal stays the same: return to neutral, breathe in space again.
What Is The Lime Glo, and How Does It Work?
When life gives you limes, cleanse your house
One psychic reshaping the way people think about energetic cleansing is Jessica Lynne, a Melbourne based psychic medium and creator of The Lime Glo.
Her method is refreshingly simple: lime.
Jessica’s journey began after a powerful encounter with a heavy entity that changed how she viewed protection. “That moment completely shifted my understanding of cleansing,” she shares. “Not everything works for everyone, and sometimes the simplest tools have the strongest effect.”
When her kinesiologist used lime essential oil on her, the shift was immediate. “The energy just cleared out completely,” she says. “That’s when I realized energy work doesn’t have to be abstract. Lime made it tangible; you can literally see it doing its job.”
Lemon uplifts, orange comforts, lime enforces
Jessica describes lime as a fast moving, purifying vibration that slices through stagnancy. “Most of what people call negative energy isn’t evil, it’s fear, stress, or grief that’s gotten stuck. Lime cuts through that like sunlight through fog. It doesn’t just lift energy; it resets it completely.”
She also explains what sets lime apart from other citrus. “Lime has a sharper, faster frequency,” she says. “Lemon uplifts, orange comforts, but lime enforces. It doesn’t just brighten a space; it commands heaviness to move.”
In her practice, she often suggests starting with something as simple as slicing a lime, then placing it in your bedroom or workspace.
“The lime literally takes on the heaviness for you. When it changes, just thank it, throw it out, and replace it.” Jessica Lynne
“You’ll see it start to shrivel, mould, or discolour; that’s your sign it’s done its job,” she explains.
Jessica’s Lime Glo candles, sprays, plus diffusers turn this humble citrus into a full sensory experience. “The scent alone uplifts instantly,” she says. “It speaks directly to the limbic system, the part of the brain that regulates memory and emotion. You don’t need to understand energy to feel it shift.”
All of her products use pure lime essential oil, never synthetic fragrance. “Everything is clean and intentional,” she adds. “The oils are lab tested, cold pressed, and balanced at safe dilutions so they’re potent but gentle enough for daily use.”
Jessica uses The Lime Glo in her own readings plus house clearings. “Before a session, I spray the room, take a few deep breaths, and light a candle. The lime instantly clears the static and grounds me.”
Her approach resonates because it’s accessible, free of fear. “Cleansing isn’t about fighting darkness,” she says. “It’s about inviting peace. Energy wants to move; lime just helps it move faster.”

What Do I Use for Psychic Protection?
Her lime clears like sunlight; mine anchors like soil
I’ll admit, Jessica’s method has me rethinking my own. My husband can’t stand the smell of smoke, yet my personal practice usually involves dragon’s blood incense, plus a cedar, sage, frankincense blend from Leftover Hippies. I burn a small cone before every mediumship reading to sharpen psychic sight, setting my focus.
Where Lime Glo is light, fresh, citrusy, my ritual leans deep, woodsy, resinous. Both work on the same principle of transmutation: turning heavy energy into something peaceful again.
For daily spiritual hygiene, I make my own protective spray, blending frankincense, myrrh, black pepper, cedar, sage essential oils with distilled water plus a splash of grain alcohol.
What each ingredient brings
- Frankincense: lifts the atmosphere, connecting you to higher consciousness.
- Myrrh: stabilizes, sealing energetic leaks.
- Black pepper: courage, alertness.
- Cedar: grounds, protects.
- Sage: neutralizes residual energy.
None of this is strange or esoteric. These are tree resins plus sacred herbs used in ceremonies around the world for centuries. Frankincense, the dried resin of the Boswellia tree, is still burned during Catholic Mass as a symbol of prayer rising. It isn’t “occult.” It’s part of humanity’s oldest language of prayer plus purification.
Even dragon’s blood, misunderstood because of its name, is simply the red resin of the Dracaena tree or the Daemonorops palm, long valued for protection plus healing. Its warm, rich scent deepens focus, creating a grounded calm.
I’ll never sell physical products, so if you’d like to make this blend, order the oils individually. Prefer incense? Leftover Hippies is a Canadian maker using pure resins, natural ingredients; their cedar, sage, frankincense temple blend is what I burn before readings.
A quick safety note on essential oils
Always dilute before anything touches skin. Cold pressed citrus oils, lime included, can make skin sensitive to sunlight, so keep them off exposed skin before heading outdoors. Ventilate while diffusing or burning anything, and keep diffusers away from cats, birds, other small pets, which are especially sensitive to essential oils. When in doubt, ask your doctor or vet.
Does Black Tourmaline Really Protect You?
A companion from a haunted apartment
After readings, I hold a large piece of black tourmaline, a companion I’ve kept for over a decade, ever since I lived in a haunted apartment.
Tourmaline is genuinely fascinating. It’s both piezoelectric plus pyroelectric: squeeze it or heat it, and it develops an electrical charge, positive at one end, negative at the other. To me, that natural polarity makes it a fitting anchor for steadying the static I feel after spirit work.
Ceremonial magicians traditionally used a triangle, the Triangle of Art, to contain spirits safely. Some practitioners borrow that idea today, setting three pieces of black tourmaline, also called schorl, in a triangle around a space.
My blend leans woodsy, spicy, resinous. Jessica’s lime works through brightness. Her lime clears like light; my incense grounds like earth. Both bring peace back into motion.
Still, as I write this, I’m seriously considering adding The Lime Glo to my practice. For those of us with partners who aren’t fond of smoke, it may be the perfect balance between clarity plus comfort.
A six step home clearing ritual
- Open the windows. Let fresh air plus daylight in before anything else.
- Set your intention. Say it aloud: “This is my home. Only peace is welcome here.”
- Cleanse with scent or smoke. Mist a spray, light incense, or carry smoke slowly through each room, corners included.
- Place a sliced lime. Set one in the room that feels heaviest, the way Jessica suggests.
- Ground yourself. Hold a grounding stone, take a salt bath, or rinse your hands in salted water.
- Replace, then repeat. When the lime shrivels or discolours, thank it, toss it, then start again.

How Can You Maintain Spiritual and Emotional Hygiene?
Treat your aura like skin
Whether you’re psychic, intuitive, or simply emotionally open, protection is about care, not avoidance.
When you protect yourself, you create a safe container for your own energy. Your perception stays balanced, and your sensitivity becomes a strength rather than a drain.
There’s no single right way. What matters is presence, consistency, respect for your own energy. Lime, smoke, saltwater, stillness: the practice itself is what keeps your light clear.
What Are the Best Tools for Psychic Protection?
Saltwater, citrus, smoke, stone
Energy flows, conducts, builds residue. Cleansing neutralizes that charge so you can think, feel, perceive clearly again.
Everyday psychic protection tools
- Saltwater: balances emotion; baths, tears, the ocean.
- Lime: cuts through density, refreshing the room.
- Incense plus oils: reshape scent memory toward calm, clarity.
- Black tourmaline, obsidian: grounding anchors for stray static.
- Intention: the engine behind every other tool on this list.
Find the ritual that speaks to you, then make it part of your day. A clear space creates a clear channel; that’s when the quiet language of your psychic senses becomes fluent.
LIGHT ALWAYS FINDS A WAY IN
Every act of cleansing is really an act of self respect.
Protecting your energy isn’t about hiding from the world. It’s about staying connected without losing yourself. When your energy feels balanced, your intuition sharpens, your home feels lighter, life starts flowing again.
